Video Categories

Animation
A type of video that is created by playing back a series of still images to create the illusion of continuous movement.

Documentary
A non-fiction film that presents a viewpoint on a specific story or issue.

Experimental
This category includes uses of TVs, videos, electronics, etc. in new and creative ways. A sculpture of televisions would be considered an experimental entry.

Music Video
A video that combines the music of a particular song with visual images. Often these images tell a story. Entries with original music are encouraged.

Narrative
A type of video that tells a story through its scenes, actors and words. These can be dramas, comedies, science fiction etc.

Public Service Announcements
A brief message to inform the general public about specific issues. PSA's are very similar to commercials in format and use, yet they are not necessarily promoting commerce.

Video Poetry
Like a written poem uses words, a video poem uses the visual image and sound to express thoughts, feelings, emotions etc. A video poem can include a combination of words, images and sounds.
